So I went to a garage sale and I saw this beautiful round table. Beautiful yes, it looked expensive and I a cheap girl, you know what I mean. And I had no idea what to do with it. So I didn’t buy it. Well as I am snuggled in my bed doing my new favorite thing, looking around and getting ideas on Pintrest. I see a similar table, beautifully redone by Kathy at Life on Lake Shore Drive. Wow I think I should have bought that table. It’s the last thing I think of before I fall asleep. In the morning when I go back the computer there is Kathy’s table on the screen I fell asleep in the middle of pinning it. Maybe the table is still at the sale. So I grab
my coffee throw the dog in the car and the high tail it over there.
I’m lucky, very lucky the table is the still there and I am every luckier. When I was there the day before there was an older man there who was spinning tales of grandeur about every piece, he wanted big bucks, you know like $20, and he had the stories to prove it. When I went back there was a younger man with no stories. I had a feeling this guy would be much easier to deal with. How much for the table? $15 he says. I only have $10 I say which is true. Ok. he says. Yeah nice and easy. I see another table a very rustic table. That’s nice I thought
but what would I do with that? Here we go again. I left it. As I am running around to Walmart and Home Depot I keep thinking about the new table. I am not going to buy it unless I have a plan to re-finish it my space is limited. I figured it out, a little chalk paint, a little sanding, I could make this work. I go zipping back. Maybe I
can get it for $5 its pretty rough.
I wait here for about 15 mins for the guy running the sale to return. There are 3 of us waiting. Apparently he’s off returning a rental car, I don’t ask.
As a car pulls up my dreams of a $5 table disappear. It’s the older man with the BS, I mean stories. I knew there was no way I was getting that table for $5. When I ask him for his best price he says, “I know you know what that is.” he says. Here we go. “No.” I say. “It’s antique primitive.” he say. hmm good bluff . I don’t know what an antique primitive is. I see an old table.
“I need $15.” he says.
$15 is not a bad starting point
“How about $10.” I say. “No, no.” he says can do that. He stands firm. Crap I never like to pay more than $1o. I keep talking, not happy to leave with out it. I offer $12 he accepts. Yeah! He got another $2 out of me.
Before I bought the table it was covered with garage sale goodies so I couldn’t see the top. As I look at it I can see that the table is made from reclaimed wood. It has a ton character. $22 for two awesome tables is a great start. Till next time.
